Boonton 1120 S1 Automatic Audio Distortion Analyzer for tube amplifier work - Tested and Like New! This is a high quality distortion analyzer that is very suitable for research lab work on audio amplifiers, communications equipment, and related uses. This is a much more modern unit than the commonly used HP 331 -334 distortion analyzers. The 1120 is digital, auto ranging, auto nulling, and more accurate than the old HP series of analog analyzers. Note that the 1120 also measures frequency, AC and DC voltage and does so with superb accuracy. A power cord and a copy of the complete and comprehensive operator and service manual including calibration routines, schematics, and use instructions on CD is included. There is also a pull-out operator instruction card mounted to the bottom of the instrument and it is in like-new condition. I have been in contact with the engineer who designed this product for Boonton and he offered a bit of additional information: "This unit is an 1120 S/1. The S/1 was a enhanced design that had high reliability components and additional features designed specifically for Military use at the Redstone Arsenal. This product was later sold commercially as the Model 1121 and is sold by Boonton to this day." It is an excellent product. -Cosmetically everything appears to be in nice condition - essentially like new with only minor imperfections. The painted enclosure is clean. Operationally everything appears to work correctly and the measurements agree with my other Boonton 1130 and 1120 analyzers. I have run the basic auto-calibration routines and the instrument appears to be calibrated although my equipment is not iso 9002 certified or NBS calibrated. The interior is like new and in perfect condition. I have tested the distortion, frequency, voltage and output functions of both the signal generator and the analyzer portion of this instrument and these appear to work fine. This is a very complex analyzer with completely programmable and remote controllable capability using the GPIB instrument interface. The calibration is completely automatic requiring only the input of known calibration signals and the initiation of the appropriate calibration routine on the 1120. I have not tested all of the advanced capabilities but I have no reason to believe everything is not operational; The 1120 also passes all of its extensive internal test routines - this is a complex and very capable lab instrument. This is one of the most advanced and desireable audio distortion analyzers available and it sells new today from Boonton as the model 1121 for $ 9,800.00 There are numerous articles posted on the www where audiophiles have shared information and automatic routine programs for this analyzer. I have been using a similar one for my own work and find it to be a superb piece of analytical equipment. The Model 1120 audio analyzer provides fast, accurate measurements including frequency, AC or DC level, distortion, SINAD and signal-to-noise ratio.
