Each full engine rotation produces a single sine wave of AC (alternating current) power. The engine must maintain a constant speed of 3,600 rpm to produce standard 60 Hz (cycles per second). (60 cycles per second times 60 (seconds per minute) = 3,600 cycles per minute). No matter how much load (lights, TV, sump pump, etc.) is needed, the generator must run at its full speed of 3,600 rpm, producing noise and consuming fuel.
