I bought this radio for parts from the privious owner who had inadvertently applied the wrong voltage through the external power supply. That burned a ferrite bead on the signal board and melted the power conductors in the ribbon cable connected to the logic board, thus burning the cable and socket on the logic board. I was curious to see weather or not the boards were still viable so I stripped out 24 conductors from an IDE cable and created a new ribbon cable and soldered both ends on the signal and logic boards(see photo) and replaced the ferrite bead with a 100 ohm resistor to bridge the burnt spot on the board and much to my surprise the radio works. In fact all functions of the radio work quite well. The only thing I have noticed, is the tone is a bit off but is loud and clear.
This is a great opportunity to own one of the best short wave radios ever made at a bargain price. I would keep it but I already have one as well as an Icom r75 and I believe the sony is at least as good as the r75.
What you see in the photos is what you will receive. The ac power supply has a new secondary wire and plug.
