A high quality traditional tool made for the professional. A "Saixe", or slater's knife, is used for dressing slates. The blade is sharpened only on one side, as a result of which this is a tool in which both right and left handed versions are available. Blade Length: 10 inches [255 mm] This knife features an offset handle rubber coated for comfortable non-slip grip, [offset to keep your hand away from those razor sharp slate chips]. The spike is 60mm long for use when putting nail holes in the slates prior to nailing. The spike can also be used to make a series of small holes down a slate, and then the tool is flipped over, and the knife used to "snap" the slate off to the right size and to neaten up edges. Another use for the spike is to smash the point into the roof if you start to slide off those slippery slates - always remember that roofing is a dangerous job, and lives are worth more than those slates!
