SPI Diamond Dressing Tools & Fitted Box Plus
As with most of my unique inventor's inventory, this is truly a beautiful piece of machine equipment. He simply loved quality! Even though it was purchased from the Bruwiler Precise Sales Co., Inc. of California in June of 1973, this Spi Radius & Angle Dresser is in superb shape. He tended to be very fastidious in how he maintained everything (tools, cameras, microscopes...). While I have listed this as "used", my inventor only did prototype machine work - thus - if he used it at all - it has only seen "light" duty!
In the case were the following items - which I have included with the dresser: (1) Rat-Tail Diamond; (13) SPI Diamond Tools (2 of which are on the dresser); (4) SPI Diamond Tools; and (1) Adapter.
Description: (taken from the Spi Catalog 840)
"The grinding wheel may be dressed to any desired form - any combination of tangents and/or radii; either convex or concave.
* Positive positioning of the diamond with setting gage on dual purpose, reversible diamond holder, included with the dresser;
* Provision for Gage Block Setting;
* Simple, fast, accurate radius setting by measuring over the two pins with a micrometer, or by inserting gage blocks. Inside or outside radius is determined simply by moving the sliding pin to the right for concave and to the left for convex;
* 2 x 90 degree graduation for combined 180 degree reading - 6 minute vernier reading;;
* One push-pull type knob for radius and angle control and for safer and faster operations;
* ACCURACY: Extremely close tolerances are held in the manufacture of this tool, assured by hardening and precision grinding of all critical parts;
* ECONOMY: Set-up and dressing time reduced to a bare minimum due to simplicity".
SPECIFICATIONS: (Taken from the Spi Catalog #840 & 920)
* Maximum Wheel Diameter Standard 10"
* with Extension 15" (I am not certain what the addl. adapter or extension that is included is for)
* Internal Radii 5/8" - 1 5/8"
* with Rat-tail adapter 1/32" - 1 5/8"
* Height from base to center 4 3/32"
* Tangent travel, either side of center 1 5/8"
* Weight - Dresser (no case) 17 lbs (with case) 23 lbs

* Spi Radius & Angle Dresser Catalog No.: 70-100 Serial No. 1413
* Original Fitted Box Catalog No.: 70-104
* Set of 13 SPI Diamond Tools - 3/8" x 2" (looks like the SPI VM Series - AAA - Concentric Radius Tools with special octahedron diamonds for fine radius work. Catalog No.: 70-102 Please forgive me, but when I measured them they came out to - 3/8" x 1 1/4" (shaft), total length - 1 1/2".
* (4) SPI Diamond Tools (please refer to picture for shape and location of diamond) 3/8" x 2 1/2" (040, 032, 062, 125), total length - 3 3/8" (I tried to locate this tool shape - but was unable to find it). Might these be Spi "Full Ball Radius Tools (180 degrees?)

CONDITION: Overall - excellent to excellent plus
Dresser: Since I am not a machinist - but have already sold the vast majority of this inventor's machine shop - I can say - without hesitation - that while the dresser may need to be greased/lubed and/or cleaned a bit from sitting in it's fitted case all these years - it is in excellent shape. A few minor nicks and slight oxidation - but it will be a beauty when it is cleaned up. From it's condition - I suspect it was barely (if ever) used.
Fitted Case: Also in excellent shape. The metal on the corners and by the handle are oxidized with slight rusty splotchy look - but other than that - it is beautiful.
Diamond Set (13): Two are on the dresser and I removed the plastic from the top of one to look at it's shape. As far as I can tell, they are in very good to excellent condition.
Diamond Set (4): Again, I removed the top from one to examine the shape. I don't know if they have ever been used.
Extension/Adaptor and the Rat-Tail Diamond: The Adapter looks like new. THe Rat-tail diamond shows oxidation w/ that same rusty splotchy look.
If you love quality - if you love precision ..... don't miss out on this spectacular, complete package offer!
