LITTLELOCOS MODEL ENGINEERING is proud to present our HANDY LITTLE LATHE CHART, an outstanding timesaver for your shop. Using one chart, you can easily find the correct tool cutting angles and the proper cutting speeds for any of 22 different materials. The "Small Universal" edition provides 21 spindle speeds from 50 to 5000 rpm matching most small, high-speed lathes. It is also ideal for use with your milling machine or drill press since it provides the proper speeds for a wide selection of metal stock, drill bit or milling cutter sizes below 1". Many sizes are also presented from 1" to 7" diameter. All cutting speeds are COLOR CODED for ease of use.
Another new feature with this chart is that stock diameters are presented in Decimal Inch, Fractional Inch, and METRIC dimensions.
To use the HANDY LITTLE LATHE CHART:
1. Choose a metal and grind your High Speed Steel (HSS) tool blank to the geometry listed on the “RECOMMENDED TOOL GEOMETRIES” table. Note the color-keyed, recommended cutting speed.
2. Find the diameter of the piece in the left column of the “SURFACE FEET PER MINUTE CUTTING SPEEDS” chart. Follow across and match the color of the recommended speed in that row to the lathe speed in the top row. Set your belts and go!!
SPINDLE SPEEDS: Compare the following speeds to your metal lathe and see how close we come:
HANDY LITTLE LATHE CHART – SPECIFICATIONS and USES
* Each chart is a FULL-COLOR COPY of one of my digital masters, printed on 11”x17” bright white paper. Each is FULL-SEAL LAMINATED with heavy duty FILM. The chart is totally sealed for years of use and wipes clean with a soft cloth.
* The Recommended Tool Geometries table gives all the angles needed to correctly grind your high-speed-steel cutter blanks to the correct cutting angles for 22 DIFFERENT MATERIALS.
* The Surface Feet Per Minute Cutting Speed table calculates the speed that the metal stock passes by the tool tip. THIS IS THE CRITICAL SPEED IN WORKING WITH METAL as each different material likes to be cut at different speeds.
* GRAPHICAL INSTRUCTIONS, PLUS TWO PAGES OF DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS are included with each chart, showing the definitions for each of the grinding angles and walking through a typical use for the chart.
* USE IT BACKWARD for your MILLING AND DRILLING OPERATIONS as the cutting speeds apply to all HSS cutters. Just take the rotating cutter diameter as the stock diameter and read the recommended RFM from the top of the chart.
