These are the large mining and quarry equipment lines. These colossal Caterpillars work out of view for most of their lives. Some work in the confines of large stone and rock quarries, while others toil in remote mining operations around the world. These machines are designed and built to dig, load, and haul thousands of tons of material daily, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year if need be. This is especially true for the ultra-large mining equipment lines, which are expected to work shift after shift, resting only for personnel changes and scheduled maintenance. In this type of environment, only the strongest, best-designed machine will do. When equipment of this magnitude is out of service for any length of time, the costs - in lost production to the owner or operator can be staggering.
