This pollen substitute comes in 10 pound packages. It contains over 40% protein and every essential amino acid required for maintaining healthy bees. Iso-leucine is over the 4% required level needed for bees to digest all the protein they consume.
Spring feeding is essential for early spring buildup. Fall feeding is essential for bees to maintain a high level of body mass protein, needed to survive the winter. Low body protein is a cause for “dwindling disease”, nosema, symptoms of EFB, as well as shortening a bee life span. For details and more information on why feeding a high protein formula is necessary, containing all the essential amino acids as outlined by DeGroot, see http:// .au/Library/pollen/nutrition.html
This pollen substitute has a shelf life of two years as long as it is protected from moisture. Make patties for feeding inside the hive, or feed dry formula from a platform feeder when natural pollen is not available. We also feed by placing dry substitute on a paper towel on top of the frames.
