Naomi Harper is presenting: Hive body (lot of 50) - commercial grade, unassembled
The full-depth hive body, 9 5/8 inches high, is most often used for brood rearing. These large units provide adequate space, with minimum interruption, for large solid brood areas. They are also suitable for honey supers. However, when filled with honey, they weigh over eighty pounds and are heavy to handle. Please Note- The hive body is also known as a brood chamber or deep super. These are the exact same things just different terminology. We have larger quantities available at discounted pricing. Email for more information.
The wood of this hive body is known as commercial grade. Our objective for commercial woodenware is structural soundness. This means there will be no holes or potential holes, splits of great significance (short splits are passed), or milling defects. We attempt to keep knots at least 1-1/2" from nailing areas (ends of box side panels) but make no guarantees. Knots, sometimes rather large, are allowed within the panel and on the edges as long as they are structurally sound. We attempt to turn the best face out and pass it by commercial standards. This means that the inside may have a budget grade appearance. Missing knots on the inside of the edges are permitted as long as half of the thickness of the panel is sound. Though we cannot always get it worked out, we try to miss knots when we put in handholds. Again, there may be as much as 1/16" variation in panel width due to post-milling shrinkage.
Note 1: Frames NOT included. See Frames Catagory.
Note 2: Nails are NOT included with our unassembled hive bodies. Many beekeepers use nail or staple guns for assembly.
Note 3: We sell "rabbet jointed" hives exclusively! They produce a strong, longer-last joint, leaving minimal engrain exposed to the weather.
