When these first were developed, they were installed separately from the energy consumption (watthour) meter. Later, meter manufacturers were able to integrate the two functions into a single meter. These days, all this information is now calculated electronically using digital signal processors and microprocessors with greater accuracy. Back when this meter was developed, there were few methods available to measure the maximum power demand without complicated clockwork energy integrating registers or thermo-mechanical devices.
The meter is in good condition overall, the black paint on the cast metal case has only a couple of small rust spots and the glass cover is in good condition. It has some marks drawn on the globe with a China marker that can be cleaned off if desired. The unit is missing the original terminal cover. I fashioned a terminal cover out of some aluminum sheet metal and found some screws to hold it to the base (as shown in the pictures). I will include my home-made terminal cover. One of the wing-nuts that holds the glass globe has a broken ear.
This meter has the following nameplate information: Single Phase, 2 Wire, 60Hz, 5 Amps, 115 Volts. Serial number 141286.
