Here is a one tube regenerative (regen) shortwave radio. This radio is built on a solid wood base with an engraved faceplate. I build these radios myself using quality parts and I pride myself This regen is built using a pentode tube (12CX6-12DZ7) in a very common circuit. This tube is from a group of tubes designed to work from a 12 volt DC power supply, mainly for car radios. They are called space charge tubes and do not require the use of the usual 150 to 300 volt plate voltages common in most tube radios. All that is needed is a 12 volt DC power source. A gel cell or common wall wart type power supply works fine. Regen radios are a very simple yet very sensitive receiver. They were the first big improvement over the crystal radio. These radios work extremely well for the very small parts count. Frequency coverage is from 5.5Mhz to 7Mhz on the Low Band and 7Mhz up to 16Mhz on the High Band This includes 6 International shortwave broadcast bands and Ham radio bands. There are plenty of stations to listen to in this range. Unlike crystal radios, regens can receive Ham radio SSB (voice) and CW (morse code) transmissions as well as the standard SW broadcasts. Regeneration is smooth and the tuning is not too sharp. This is an easy regen to operate. Many stations can be heard with only a 20 foot indoor antenna and ground connection. These regens work just as well as the more expensive ones, they just don't have many of the frills I supply complete operating instructions as well as a schematic and hook-up diagram.
