The cable comes equipped with a TNC RIGHT ANGLE connector at one end, and a N quick connector at the opposite end. The quick connector slips on and off the antenna jack and doesn't require threading. The connector is made from nickel plated beryllium spring copper and will last many thousands of cycles. The overall length is 3.5 meters (11.5 feet). This length is perfect when a 2 meter tripod is employed.
The TNC connector is used on a good number of GPS Receivers. Ashtech, Sokkia, and Trimble to name a few. The N connector is found on most older antennas.
I use Mil-Spec RG-142B/U coaxial cable in the fabrication of these cables. This cable is rated for higher radio frequencies then those used in GPS communications. And as such will offer very little attenuation to your GPS signal. This means that a stronger signal level appears at the radio.
The cable is constructed from silver plated steel and is stronger and more conductive then copper. Steel resists the bends and kinks better than copper and will have a longer useful live. No more kinky, snarled cables to deal with.
Both the center dielectric and outside sheath of my cables are made from Teflon. The common black cable is made with a foam dielectric and a vinyl sheath. Teflon resists wear and abrasion and will maintain its shape better then the common cables do.
The mechanical connection of the cable to the connector is a combination of solder and crimping. This connection is covered with an Irradiated Polyolefin adhesive lined shrink tube. This material makes the connection rigid, seals the connector from the elements and glues the cable and connector together.
GPAC is a part time business that I run from my home nights and weekends. I work full time for a Surveyor who's specialty is GPS. I use and maintain GPS equipment everyday. My cables have been sold to and used by Surveyors all over the World, and to date, I've had no failures with any of them. I hold an Amateur Extra Class (W8HJ) and an FCC 2nd Class Radio Telephone License (P2-19-28898).
