If a satellite signal is lost, the receiver automatically switches to holdover mode, which ensures system synchronization for up to 24 hours with reduced accuracy. It gives you the short term stability of a crystal oven oscillator and long term stability of GPS The Z3801A uses a Motorala Oncore GPS to discipline an HP 10811D oven controlled crystal oscillator, and is essentially identical to the HP 58503 SmartClock. The frequency accuracy is specified at less than one part per billion, on a one day average, exceptional for HAM stations.
