This is a generic "el cheapo" welding helmet I picked up, here on E-bay for about $60. It works very well for the price. But as my shop rate is $60/hour, I have moved to a $250 helmet for increased visibility and better head gear. The head gear on this helmet tends to slowly get loose and the helmet will drop after a while if you don't readjust it. I broke the cheap grade of plastic when first assembling the helmet and had to super glue it. The view seems to be a little hazy from crystal clear, which probably can be improved with a plastic polish or new cover lenses. I bought it to use with my high amperage wire feed and it works very well for that on shade 12. It is continuously variable from shade 9-13. It darkens instantly, and lightens up after weld has cooled enough not to dazzle you. Light shade is about 3, & off shade is 5 or 6 and appropriate for gas welding or cutting. This is a good choice for someone wanting an auto darkening helmet for intermittent use at a low price. She ain't pretty, but she's fully functional.
