Here we have an unused moving coil DC meter with a full scale deflection in the region of 5 mA (milli amps). The meter is marked 'HOBUT REGISTERED' on the back, and the meter scale is marked in 'S' units.
Note that under zero current conditions the meter needle rests at the right hand side of the scale (indicating maximum signal strength). This means that the S meter driver circuit needs to provide a 5 mA bias current under no signal conditions, reducing the meter current as the received signal increases in magnitude. I believe that some early valve receivers needed such a meter movement.
There is no fitting kit in the box (perhaps there never was?), so the meter would need to be held in place with a round clip; or, perhaps, by securing the meter terminals to a piece of thick paxolin-type board behind the front panel.
The face of the meter is about 41 mm diameter; the body is about 38 mm diameter; and the overall depth is about 35 mm (including the terminals).
