The Sierra 164B is a bi-directional RF Wattmeter that can be inserted in a coaxial transmission line to measure power and VSWR. The Wattmeter scale reads 0-10, 0-25 and 0-50 Watts. The actual power ranges are determined by the plug-in elements. These elements cover a power range of 100 mW to 1000 Watts and a frequency range of 2 mHz to 1000 mHz. A simple twist of a knob selects forward or reflected power, or any power range without requiring removal of RF power. The above specifications were obtained from an internet search. I don't have an instruction manual for this meter. This particular unit comes with 4 snap-in elements including: 2 to 30 mHz that has 4 power settings of 50, 100, 500 and 1000 Watts full scale; 50 to 148 mHz that has 4 power settings of 1, 5, 10 and 50 Watts full scale; Two 100 to 500 mHz elements with power settings of 1, 2.5, 10 and 25 Watts full scale. Photo 1 shows the meter and the 4 elements along with the carrying case. The case has been modified to hold and protect the Sierra meter. It appears to do that very well. Photo 6 shows the meter and elements inside the case. I connected the 164B between a 500+ Watt transmitter and a 50 Ohm dummy load. Photo 2 shows the 164B reading 550 Watts of RF power. The element used was the 2 - 30 mHz in the 1000 Watt power position (photo 3). The frequency used was 3.880 mHz. (please look at our rules and privacy policy) |
