This 1957 CAT D-9 19A-719 was equipped with a 320-hp D353 Turbocharged Diesel Engine, a front mounted #30 CCU, and a C-frame with push-block for pushing the 8W DW-21 scraper fleet. John Rice was Peirce’s lowboy driver at that time, and recalls going to the CAT dealer, Ohio Machinery Co. in Cleveland in 1957 and hauling the new D-9 on his 1956 FORD T-800 tractor and 1956 Martin Lowboy to a Peirce project on SR-53 in Seneca County near Fremont. From there the D-9 went to the I-75 in Hancock County north of Findlay, and then onto the US-30N Bypass of Williamstown, Ohio, also in Hancock County, where this photo was most likely taken. This photo was enlarged from John’s original b&w snapshot, but is amazingly clear and shows a good deal of detail.
