Okuma has built he LB10-II Lathe from proven design criteria. This makes the LB10-II a powerful and accurate tool machining both chuck work and shaft parts in a variety of lot sizes. The LB10-II Lathe, with the Okuma OSP control system, servo drive units, spindle motor and patented encoder positioning device are all designed and built by Okuma. This total engineered system assures consistently high performance over an extended work life. Bed Construction An iron casting forms the base for the bed which provides for excellent chip disposal. The heavily ribbed, 30 degree bed casting is computer designed for superior stiffness to assure consistent accuracies. The 12.20" distance across large rectangular ways provide optimum support for the cross slide carriage. Spindle and Headstock Construction The spindle with 10 HP integral motor is supported by double row cylindrical roller bearings and high speed double angular thrust bearings. A two-point bearing support provides the ridgidty for this very accurate spindle. This spindle features a 140mm flat nose with 2.09" thru bore. This is a gearless headstock with 2 speed ranges of 50 to 6000 Rpm. Full HP is available from 750 rpm. Standard draw tube thru hole I.D. is 1.69" The hydraulic tailstock has a 2.16" diameter quill, a #4 Morse Taper and a stroke of 3.15". The quill can be actuated under part program command or by the foot pedals. Axis Servo Drives Both X and Z axes are driven by the ultra precise ball screws and pre-loaded ball screw nuts, center mounted between the ways or optimum drive conditions. The X axis ball screw, with a 1.260", is driven by 4 HP brushless servomotor and develops 1,010 lbs. of thrust. High Speed Turret Design The V12 turret, 14.17" across the flats, is designed to hold 12 tools, either I.D. ( 1.25" diameter ) or O. D. ( .75" square shank ) in any position. Stable, accurate cutting is assured by the use of a large coupling. Turret index speed is a fast, 0.2 second / station with shortest path indexing a standard feature. Chip Disposal System Slant bed construction permits chips to fall directly onto the chip pan or optional chip conveyor without the accumulating on the slides.
