Beautiful handcrafted pen desk set with fully functional Morse code straight key. Whether you are a telegrapher or amateur radio operator or merely someone who loves functional items of wood of brass and chrome, this desk set offers a very unique combination. This desk set is new and is handcrafted from Texas ebony and mesquite wood. The pen is made from beautiful Texas ebony, an extremely hard wood which grows in Texas. The base is made from the mesquite tree grown in the Wild Horse Desert region of South Texas. Mesquite is one of the hardest woods native to North America and is also one of the most beautiful woods. The desk set base is hand cut and shaped. Then it is sanded to a very smooth finish with 600 grit sandpaper. It is sealed with 5 coats of tung oil. The pen funnel is solid metal and is 24kt gold plated. The set comes with a non slip pad cut to the size of the base to prevent the base from slipping during use. Edges are rounded for comfort. The pen is turned on a lathe and cut to final and unique shape by hand. The wood is finished to a natural shine with unbelievably fine 12,000 grit sanding pads before a protective finish is applied. Texas ebony often presents a characteristic called chatoyance where the wood appearance slightly changes with angle. Pen metal parts are 24kt gold plated. The pen uses standard Cross refills. The code key is referred to as a ball bearing straight key or as a Japanese ball bearing key. It is sometimes referred to as a JJ38. This is because the design of the key uses ball bearings for the mounting of the moving part. It is NEW out of the box and has excellent appearance. The key is fully functional and fully adjustable.
