This is a VHS video tape lecture that I purchased from Cygnus-Quasar Books of Powell, Ohio in 1995. The copyright on the label is 1982. It is in NTSC (North American) format and the approximate running time is 70 minutes. Again, this is an original and not an illegal copy. Due to the age of the tape, there is noticeable graininess upon playback. There are no glitches or drop-outs and the audio segment is flawless. The tape has been stored out of direct sunlight and at room temperature but the passage of time took its toll on the playback quality. It is not terrible but not great, either. I give it a subjective rating of 3.5 out of 5. For the most part, this tape is of historical significance and highly educational. All engineers admire and deeply respect the late Dr. John Kraus whom made significant and pioneering advancements in radio astronomy, satellite communications, and much more.
It was filmed at Ohio State University and consists of Professor John D. Kraus giving a lecture-demonstration to a large seminar course. Dr. Kraus is the only mode of content delivery. In other words, to the best of my memory, I do not recall any question and answer sessions with his graduate students or banter that interrupts from his fascinating monologue. The flow and pace are appropriate. This is a man that knew his material intimately. Thus, he does not come accross as preachy, dry, or "academic." His passion clearly shines through. As you are aware of, it's extremely rare to encounter an individual whom is so utterly knowledgeable of their subject *and* truly loves teaching others in a manner that is clear and concise yet never patronizing or condescending. Dr. Kraus was a genius but practical and down-to-earth.
The topics in this demonstration-lecture VHS tape include:
* Wave reflection and transmission
* Plus a re-enactment of Heinrich Hertz conducting experiments with his first antennas
